Non-core skills that helped me most
Performance evaluation or leadership review is a tricky thing. It is a little bit weird to be a part of a judgmental process, but I think I have seen more structure around this in my current employer than anywhere else I’ve been before this. Happy to be in the room and seeing how this is done.
I have been successful at my current workplace. Like many good things in life, it was a combination of luck, previous experiences teaching me to avoid mistakes, and some chance opportunities.
A few aspects that have had an outsized impact:
- Building an opinion about things around me, even when it is not directly related to my specific work
- Having a voice - becoming outspoken about everything and with anyone, in a respectful manner
- Doing my stuff - Results oriented, Bias for action, deep dive, being a keen listener and making explicit asks
Special thanks to my mentors :)
